A Surprise Litter and a Sudden Rescue
Nugget’s story begins on April 18, 2021, alongside her brothers, Boss Man and Dora. They were born in my backyard to a friendly stray I knew well. This mama cat had successfully raised several litters before, which made her sudden abandonment of this particular trio so confusing and concerning. Whether she sensed illness or was spooked by something, she left them behind. That’s when we stepped in to bring the vulnerable kittens to safety.
The Story Behind the Name: Chickie Nuggie
While her brother earned his name with bravery, Nugget earned hers with a unique and adorable marking. She’s a beautiful calico, sporting the classic patches of black, white, and orange. But the real standout feature? One of her little ears is a perfect, solid shade of orange! It instantly reminded me of a crispy, golden-brown chicken nugget. The name stuck, and she often gets called by her affectionate nickname, “Chickie Nuggie.”
Along with her siblings, she was bottle-fed, vetted, and quickly became a permanent, beloved member of our furry family. They remain the youngest cats in our crew to this day.
The Personality of a Snuggle Bug
If Boss Man is the energetic class clown, Nugget is the quiet, thoughtful observer. She is definitely more on the shy side compared to her siblings. You won’t often find her tearing through the house with the zoomies; she prefers the quiet life.
Her favorite hobbies include finding the coziest hiding spots and burrowing deep under soft blankets. There’s nothing she loves more than a good snuggle session in a warm, safe den she’s made for herself.
A Bond Forged at Bedtime
While she may be shy, Nugget has formed an incredibly strong and special bond: she has claimed my son as her person. Every single night, without fail, she curls up with him to sleep. It’s as if she knows he is her safe place. In his room, her shyness melts away, replaced by pure, affectionate trust. She is his loyal bedtime companion, a total sweetheart who shows her love in the quietest and most comforting ways.
She is a beautiful reminder that not all cats are outgoing whirlwinds. Some have hearts of gold that they share only when they feel safe and loved. And we feel so lucky that Nugget chose us to share hers with.
